Don’t worry if you did, or didn’t for that matter, because after a year of techno geekery experimentation, I’ve decided I will never be able to maintain that level of techno geekiness and so have resumed my old format (i.e. this website). It’s far easier for me to maintain and won’t have any of the strange quirks my website of the past year has had.

So, in short, you don’t need to do anything, and I just need to catch up on a year’s worth of blog posts that have conveniently disappeared off the smarty pants site that is no more!

Something I talk about a lot in my memoir, Webs of Light, is the phenomenon I call Mirror Mirror.

As an animal communicator, I have often thought that I should ask the animals for their thoughts on meat production. To be honest, I’ve always been nervous about doing this, knowing that I could be the recipient of all manner of information. Today, I decided to start a series of animal communications with animals in service in the world. This brought up a lot of emotion for me so I had to work hard to really ground myself and let go of expectations for this communication and remain neutral. This is what they had to say. The cows I contacted were local cows around me that live in grass paddocks, who are destined for slaughter at some stage.

(For the record, I never eat beef.)

What do you want people to know about cow slaughter?

The cows gave me the image of them standing out in the field, with a gentle breeze on their cheeks and the sun on their backs and the birds singing in the trees. Then the image changed to when they enter the slaughterhouse. Everything was very dark, mechanical, noisy, rough and scary. They emphasised that it was ‘very unnatural’ and that it was ‘very frightening’.

What do you want people to know about being killed in the paddock?

The cows said that they were much more at peace with this, but they wanted to be given the opportunity ‘to say goodbye’ to all their friends. A sense of closure to them was very important, which is where considered actions were much appreciated. Rituals and a space to ‘close out’ their life was important because it helped the cows move on as a whole spirit.

What do you want people to know about eating meat?

The cows gave the phrase ‘like cures like’ and showed muscle meat as being the same as human muscle meat. My interpretation of this was that there were some instances in which eating meat can be beneficial for people. But, they also stressed that there was ‘no life force’ in meat and that if people were consuming meat it was very important to also eat good quality life force foods at the same time, such as fresh salads. The last thing they had to share about this was how important it was to bless the meat and give thanks. They gave the image of a person blessing their food, and a spark of light rising from the food and travelling to the soul of the animal that had given its life for it. They suggested that many cows had ‘shattered souls’ from the slaughter, but that each time someone gave thanks and blessings a piece of that soul returned to them and helped to make them whole once more.

I would like to say thank you to cows that came to talk to me today. I only asked for one, ‘a representative’, to come forward but they came as a herd, showing how strong their collective consciousness is. I would like to ask the cows many more questions and I will post these as they occur.

I need to become a cat.

January for me has been a month of loss, frustration, blocking, retreating and putting my house in order. But it’s also been the first month of The Massage Project. Simply put, The Massage Project was a fanciful, fun idea that my husband took to heart and presented it to me in reality. That is, a massage every day for a year with the goal of improving my health.

If you’re anything like me, right now you might be thinking things like, “but won’t that be really expensive?” “why?” and, my favourite, “who does that??” Well, apparently I do, now. It’s taken me the better part of a month to get onboard with this idea. In the beginning, I was a swirl of nerves, fears, doubts and worries. (You see, it’s taken me almost a month to share this with you!)

But what I really need to do is channel the cat. For a cat, the idea of a massage every day isn’t fanciful or frivolous, it’s a downright necessity. A cat has no problem receiving massage, indeed, forcefully requesting massage. A cat knows that it is her god-given right to have massage, pleasure and healing every day. So why do humans have so much difficulty receiving these things?

 Every time I lie on the massage table at home, at least one of our animals come to join us. They’re drawn there by the healing energy the process of massage. And they want in on it too!

Buy Animal Communication Reading March 2009

Now, I’m not advocating that you go out and buy a puppy for Christmas! And I’m certainly not advocating that you surprise someone with an animal for Christmas. This is notoriously the worst time of year for rescue organisations, with thousands of animals being abandoned not long after Christmas, usually to be euthanased.

But maybe you could set the intention to open your home to an animal, and do it in a way that supports animals, rather than perpetuates the cycles of unwanted animals. That is, set the intention to rescue (adopt) an animal from a shelter or other animal welfare charity, rather than buying an animal from a breeder, pet shop or similar. There are no two ways about it. There are too many horses, dogs and cats in Australia and every time you buy one from a breeder, you are helping to support the continual cycle of death for the millions of unwanted animals.

If you cannot adopt an animal yourself, you may also like to consider becoming a foster carer for animals that are looking for their forever homes. There are many good organisations and networks around who are desperate for good people to help in this way. You might also like to consider becoming a wildlife carer, for the thousands of native animals that are injured and abandoned each year and need a helping hand to get back on their feet again.

Please consider setting this intention this Christmas, so that 2011 can be a rich and rewarding experience for yourself and for the many animals in need.

My smallest horse and my biggest... they took a long time to work their stuff out!

A question from a Facebook friend today was about how to introduce new horses to each other. As I foster horses for Charlie’s Angels Horse Rescue, and also have six of my own, I am frequently introducing new horses and the result is much like throwing a bolder into a pool of still water… there’s a big splash and the waves and ripples take time to settle again.

Introducing new horses can be challenging! And it’s stressful because they can really do some damage to each other. Ultimately, horses are just like people, and they make friends and enemies quickly and rarely change their minds. The herd hierarchy is really important to them and unfortunately you just have to let them sort it out to a certain extent.

I like to introduce them over fences for a few days (if possible) before putting them together so they can try to work each other out first. As your herd gets bigger, you need more facilities, such as yards, to be able to seperate the ones that are bullied to give them some peace and so they can eat all their food without being chased. I have one at the moment that’s getting a lot of bites on her rump so I’m leaving a light rug on her to help stop the wounds and scarring. And, recently, I was fortunate enough to get my neighbours’ property to graze so I’ve moved the four most dominant ones (who all just happened to be in the one sub-herd) over there and that’s given the other six much more peace. In the past, I’ve tried to guess which horses will be friends but it’s never what I think it will be

You need to monitor your horses carefully. On occassion, I’ve had to ‘rescue’ horses that were being chased badly (‘hunted’ is probably a better word). And the battle scars will show you who’s being chased and attacked. Food obviously brings out the worst behaviour so this is the most high risk time and the one that you may need extra facilities to handle. With the four horses on my neighbour’s property, I don’t have yards, so I’ve set up feeding stations next to trees and I tie up the top three dominant horses while they eat their hard feed and wait until everyone’s finished before I let them go again.

It might sound obvious to say it (but I’m saying it because I’ve seen many people ignore it) but you can’t just leave the horses down the chain to fend for themselves. You need to care for them, even if that means you have to take them outside the fenceline while they eat, or stand with them and guard them from their attackers. If you don’t, the result will be injuries, weight loss and possible stress-induced behaviours and illnesses in the horses down the food chain, and more aggressive behaviours and weight gain in the ones up the food chain.

It does take considered thought, action and effort, but you can manage almost all intra-herd relationships.
